Finishes™
Kelly S. King is the owner of The Kelly S. King Institute of Decorative Finishes™,
which is comprised of several very impressive divisions:
The Faux Finish Institute by Kelly S. King™ and Vandelae Studios by Kelly S. King™
instruct students, from beginner to professional, in the art of faux and decorative
finishing; The Fauxcademy of Decorative Finishing, LLC recognizes and rewards artists
for their talent and accomplishments in the field of decorative finsihing; and Kelly S.
King Imports™ brings fine 18th century European and Venetian-style unfinished
furniture from Italy and then customizes it for clientele. In addition to this,
Kelly also owns The Painting Pros, Inc., a contract residential and commercial
painting business.
In 1984, Kelly S. King began his career much the same way as many of his
students: Starting with a basic talent and interest in decorative painting
combined with a burning desire to continually increase his knowledge of faux painting
techniques, Kelly soon found himself being offered freelance faux painting assignments
for applying his unique wall and ceiling finishes, European plasters, marbling,
stenciling, and other faux painting applications.
Kelly's first company was The Painting Pros, Inc.™, which continues today as a full-service paint
contracting company offering general painting, faux painting, and decorative finishing services - including mural and trompe l'oeil
renderings - for a large number of discerning clientele. As word of his unique
talent spread, Kelly once more found himself being offered a number of prestigious faux
painting projects throughout the country and abroad. His many faux finish
commissions include residential homes and estates, commercial properties, governor's
mansions, and even European castles, including Princess Park Manor in London, England.
The Kelly S. King Institute of Decorative Finishes, Inc.™ was formed shortly thereafter,
consisting of the following divisions:
The Faux Finish Institute™, Kelly S. King Imports™, and The Painting Pros, Inc.™
The Faux Finish Institute™ sprang from Kelly’s desire to
offer faux painting classes built around faux painting techniques which truly appeal to
the marketplace, and to provide insight into the skills required to build and maintain
a profitable faux painting business. As a result, Kelly and his hand-picked staff
of instructors go beyond the classroom, instructing each student in marketing, bidding,
invoicing, and other essential business practices needed to run and operate a
revenue-generating decorative finishing venture. In 2000, the institute expanded
with the opening of Vandelae Studios by Kelly S. King™.
In 1998, Kelly had the idea of creating a national event dedicated to helping faux
finishers, artists, muralists, and decorative painting professionals in the essential
aspects of building their business. He envisioned an event filled with seminars,
training, business and sales education, and a venue to reward decorative finishers for
their creativity. That vision came to life with the creation of
The Fauxcademy of Decorative Finishing™, which is a highly
"sought after" achievement in the faux and decorative finishing industry.
